Pop music is a broad term for a genre of music that appeals to a listener’s “audio pleasure center.” It requires very little “work” to enjoy a pop song, as its focus is to create a sense of driving appeal. Almost all pop music covers bases of other genres and is aimed at pleasing a general audience.
Oftentimes, pop music is mistaken for “popular” music that finds itself on the popular music charts. Although a lot of pop music surfaces on the singles charts, or “Top 40s,” the two are mutually exclusive.
Pop music often has a “catchy” rhythm and hook, which most likely transforms it from “pop music” to “popular music.” The assumption here is that a driving rhythm and hook is not easy to forget and can be spread to audiences easily.
